A brief history on the scholarship fund and legacy;

The ASU Alumni Colorado Chapter Sun Devil Send Off scholarship was started in the early 90’s by Kelly Leid and James Emmelkamp. Kelly and James were both presidents of the Colorado chapter at the time. Sadly, a prior president Carol Boos, was diagnosed with cancer in her late 20’s and passed away. In her memory the Carol Boos Memorial Scholarship was started in the mid 90’s and was given away each year during the Send-Off in Carol’s memory. Carol’s Mom would actually come to the Send-offs with pictures of Carol, and talk about how much Carol loved ASU, and it was a pretty emotional ceremony. Carol was an ultimate Sun Devil and represented the Colorado chapter well as president in the 80’s.

Each year the Colorado chapter has given a $500 scholarship to one applicant. On average 7-10 applicants from high schools all over the State of Colorado apply annually. For the past 20 years, the Colorado chapter has given an estimated total of 5,000 dollars to one brand new in coming Freshman Sun Devil. The Colorado Chapter plans to continue this legacy and has made a commitment to raising $25,000 by 2020 to keep the vision of Kelly and James alive, as well as the memory of Carol Boos.

The ASU Alumni Colorado Chapter is growing very rapidly. We host events all over the state and love representing our Sun Devil pride in the Rocky Mountain region. We host game watches for football, basketball, ice hockey, and softball. We also have our signature event in Breckenridge each winter- ASU Colorado Ski and Board day. Other events that we host including the Sun Devil Send Off are: ASU Cares Day, Pat’s Shadow Run, an annual golf tournament, networking events, Nuggets games, and the ASU/CU tailgate when the football team comes to town.
